It's Good Friday morning — and if you're still working out what to do with the family (or yourself!) this Easter, don't panic. There's a brilliant mix of things happening across Stowmarket and the surrounding area over the next few days, from free family fun to hands-on creative workshops. Here's our pick of seven things well worth your time.

1. Easter Forest School

📍Food Museum

Good Friday 3 April & Friday 10 April | 10:30–14:30 | £10–£12

If you can grab a spot today, this one's a real treat. Children head outdoors to dye eggs using natural materials and make their own chocolate nests, all while exploring the sights and sounds of spring at the Food Museum. It's hands-on, it's outdoors, and it's the kind of activity kids talk about for days. Booking is essential — check the Food Museum website if there's still availability.

2. Warm Welcome – Good Friday Special

📍Red Gables

Good Friday 3 April | 2:00–4:00 PM | £2

Looking for something a bit more relaxed this afternoon? The friendly Warm Welcome group at Red Gables is putting on a special Easter edition — think classic games, unlimited Easter-themed refreshments, and a bonus Easter raffle and quiz. It's just £2 and a lovely way to socialise and meet new people in a welcoming, no-pressure setting.

3. Meet our Easter Lambs

📍Food Museum

Daily until 12 April | 11:30 & 15:00 | Free with museum entry

This is the one that always gets the biggest smiles. Every day until 12 April, the Food Museum is inviting families to meet, hold, and feed their Easter lambs — with the museum team on hand to share everything you need to know about the animals. It's free with museum entry and no pre-booking is required for the session itself (just book at reception on arrival). A lovely experience for all ages, toddlers included.

4. Easter Trail

📍Food Museum

Daily until 12 April | All day | Paid (trail kit from the museum shop)

While you're at the Food Museum, pick up an Easter trail from the shop. Work your way around solving Easter puzzles and uncovering discoveries along the route — and if you complete the full trail, there's a chocolate treat waiting for you at the end. Suitable for all ages and a great way to explore the museum at your own pace.

5. Children's Easter Crafts

📍Sakura Studio Gallery, Stonham

Holy Saturday 4 April | 10:30–12:30 | £10 per child

A cracking option for Saturday at Sakura Studio in Stonham. Children spend up to two hours painting wooden eggs and Easter hanging decorations to take home and treasure. It's colourful, creative, and all materials are included. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and enjoy refreshments in the studio — or have a wander around the food and café options at Stonham Barns next door.

6. Easter Celebration

📍Battisford Free Church

Easter Sunday 5 April | 5:00 PM | Free

Battisford Free Church is hosting a free Easter Celebration on Sunday evening for the whole community. Bring along a decorated egg for the competition (there are categories for under 11s, 11–17s, and adults), then enjoy team craft and Easter challenges, a quiz, drinks, snacks, and plenty of prizes. It's a relaxed, warm evening open to everyone, and a really lovely way to mark Easter Sunday together.

7. Race of the Boggmen

📍The Chestnut Horse

Easter Monday 6 April | From 10:30 AM | Free

End your Easter weekend with something completely different. The Race of the Boggmen returns to The Chestnut Horse for a traditional village celebration and a full day of family fun. The afternoon kicks off with an egg and spoon race, followed by egg throwing, before the main event — the Race of the Boggmen itself at 4 PM. There's also a bouncy castle, Punch & Judy, American-style BBQ from Roosters, and a Suffolk artisanal craft market featuring local makers in partnership with Crafts with Lauren. A proper Easter Monday out.

Whatever you get up to this Easter, we hope it's a good one. Keep an eye on the Stowmarket Life events page for the full list of what's on across the area throughout the school holidays.
