Why Stowmarket Food and Drink Festival Is Still One of My Favourite Days in Town

A personal wander around Stowmarket Food and Drink Festival, with good food, friendly faces and plenty of local buzz.

There are some events that just feel good from the moment you arrive, and for me, Stowmarket Food and Drink Festival is one of them.

This year's festival was a brilliant reminder of what makes local events so special. The town was properly buzzing. Yes, finding a parking spot took a little while, but honestly, the hassle was worth it.

We tried food from a few different stalls, bumped into friends, browsed the Food Museum and made sure to pick up some sweet treats to enjoy back home. That is pretty much my ideal kind of town centre day.

According to Suffolk News, thousands of people came into the town centre, with more than 80 food and drink stalls lining the streets. You could really feel that while walking around. Everywhere you turned there was something to smell, try, browse or join a queue for.

Our food list got a bit ridiculous in the best way. We enjoyed raclette, burritos, nachos, corndogs, brownies, ice cream and cookies. A balanced diet? Not exactly. A happy festival day? Absolutely.

The Food Museum was lovely to wander through too, and the children's entertainment made the day feel really easy as a family outing. There was enough going on to keep little ones happy, while still giving grown-ups a chance to browse, eat and chat.

We bumped into a few friendly faces from the John Peel Centre and Stowmarket Town Council. It is always nice seeing the people behind local events out in the middle of it all, especially when the day has such a good atmosphere.

Events like this are not just about the food, although the food definitely helps. They give local businesses, traders and makers a chance to be seen. They give families something easy and enjoyable to do together. They give people a reason to spend time in the town centre.

And, perhaps most importantly, they remind us that Stowmarket has a lot to be proud of.

A huge well done to everyone involved in organising the festival, taking part, trading, supporting and showing up. Events like this take time, planning and hard work behind the scenes, and it really does make a difference.

If I had to sum it up, I would say this: good food, good weather, good atmosphere and a town that felt properly alive. No wonder it is one of my favourites.
